These photos are of the bull lassoo-ing competition we went to on New Years Day in the nearby village of Loreto. It was amazing.
An Ecuadorian New years tradition is to burn the Año Viejo, the Old Year. They take old clothes, and stuff them with sawdust and then burn the doll at midnight. Everyone is encouraged to put something in the guy that represents something they want to burn away from the old year. One guy put his business card in to represent how he wants to quit his job when he returns from traveling. I wrote down some things that I have learned this past year that I am ready to let go of.
Here he is burning. We love you all! Hope you all had a safe and happy New Year! Wow! 2009!
